Suitable for bats:
Bats play a crucial role in controlling insect populations, particularly moths, mosquitoes, and other night-flying insects. By installing a bat box, you're providing shelter for these remarkable creatures and encouraging them to establish a residence in your garden.
Best location:
To ensure your Reclaimed Wooden Bat Box becomes a cosy bat haven, consider the following tips for proper placement:
Height: Mount the bat box at least 3-5 meters above the ground. Bats prefer higher roosts for safety and ease of take-off and landing
Orientation: Position the box so it receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day. Bats need warmth to maintain their body temperature, especially during the colder months
Away from Light Pollution: Minimize light pollution around the bat box to avoid disturbing bats' natural nocturnal behaviours. Bats are sensitive to light and may avoid roosts in brightly lit areas
Protection from Predators: Place the bat box in a location that offers protection from potential predators, such as cats or birds. Avoid areas with heavy foot traffic or frequent disturbances
Access to Water: Bats require a source of water for drinking and hunting insects. If possible, locate the bat box near a pond, stream, or other water source
No Obstructions: Ensure there are no obstacles directly in front of the entrance hole, allowing bats easy access and exit.
By providing a safe and inviting habitat for bats with our Reclaimed Wooden Bat Box, you're not only enhancing your garden but also contributing to the natural balance of your ecosystem. Create a bat-friendly environment and enjoy the benefits of reduced insect populations while supporting our not-for-profit mission. Order your Bat Box today and make a positive impact on your local wildlife.
About The Wood Shack:
The Wood Shack is one of seven social enterprises operated by JERICHO to help people who face real and significant challenges in getting a job. These could include trauma, insufficient work experience, health & wellbeing needs, education barriers and communication challenges. We do this by giving them a real work opportunity and individualised support to ultimately help them progress into sustainable employment.
Last year, we supported 16 people including five survivors of modern slavery, 100% of those who completed their project progressed into a positive outcome and we generated an estimated £200,000 in social value.
